Turning it on, using it, and what to do when something looks wrong.

Turn it on

  1. Open the Page Extractor app once. Its window shows whether the extension is on.
  2. Click Quit and Open Safari Settings…, or in Safari choose Safari › Settings › Extensions.
  3. Tick Page Extractor. No website access is needed: Safari lets it read a page when you click its button.

Then open any web page, such as the demo page, and click the Page Extractor button in the toolbar. If you don’t see the button, choose View › Customize Toolbar and drag it in.

Common questions

The popup says it can’t read this page

Safari doesn’t let extensions read its own pages, such as Settings, the Start Page or other extensions, or App Store pages. Try a normal web page.

Re-scan says Safari didn’t allow it

Safari gives Page Extractor access to a page only when you click its button on that page. Go back to the page, click the button again, then Open Extractor.

Some pictures are missing

Many sites load pictures as you scroll. Scroll to the bottom of the page, then click Re-scan. Also check the filters on the left: inline drawings and site icons are hidden until you tick them.

The ZIP left some pictures out

Some sites refuse to hand pictures to anything other than their own pages, and some links have expired. The download window lists each picture it couldn’t fetch and why, with Try Again and Copy Failed Addresses.

Downloading asks for permission

Downloading pictures as a ZIP means fetching them from the sites they’re on, so Safari asks once whether Page Extractor may do that. Lists of links and emails download without asking.
